Jessica Simpson hints ex-husband Eric Johnson cheated as she returns to music

Jessica Simpson has raised eyebrows by releasing a new song dripping with accusatory lyrics about being the victim of an affair.

split from her 45, earlier this year after being a couple for 15 years and after 11 years of marriage. Now Jessica appears to be channelling her anguish into her music as she is limbering up to release her first album since her festive 2010 record Happy .

While the former couple have remained reasonably silent on the reasons behind the collapse of their marriage, it had previously been hinted that there were "trust issues" at the root of the split. And now Jessica has thrown fuel on these rumours be releasing a new song that includes some damning lyrics.

Her new track, titled Leave, was unleashed on Friday with telling lyrics that include: "What we had was magic/Now you've made it tragic/Giving her what you gave to me/ Now the well that you drank from is empty." The song continues: "Your weakness made me lonely/Unholy matrimony/Did you do to her what you did to me./Was she on her knees/She's everything but me."

Jessica croons on: "I want you to leave/I don't even wanna breathe the air you breathe/I am stronger on my own/ So hold on/ I'm letting you go/How'd this even happen/I can just imagine/I wanna know then again I don't/She get you off dressing up in my clothes/Don't say you love me/ Don't even try to touch me/If you were me you'd fall to pieces/I make heartbreak look damn easy."

Jessica has previously opened up about the fact music has been a release for her following her painful split. She wrote online: "Music makes you un-become to become, and through this process my soul has been pulled to the very place it belongs,' began the country crooner from Texas. To the girl I was, I love you. To the woman I am, I am proud of you. To the woman I am becoming, I am excited for you….lets do this…it’s GO TIME."

Jessica has been working with 47-year-old singer-songwriter JD McPherson on her new record - which is being teased as a grungy revenge album. A source previously told the Daily Mail: "She is singing from the heart and there is a lot of pain there, she goes very deep. She has called it the 'soundtrack to my soul'. It is a bit like the Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill album. Very raw and full of wild emotion. She will shock the pants off her fans."

Jessica and Eric were married in 2014 after four years of dating. Together they welcomed children Maxwell Drew, born 2012, Ace Knute, born 2013, and Birdie Mae, born in 2019. Prior to being married to Eric, Jessica was married to 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey, 51, and they enjoyed reality show success with MTV's Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
